Tampere Supercross & Offroad Expo 2018 Return to the Tampere Exhibition and Sports Centre!
Finland’s largest and only indoor Supercross event, Tampere Supercross, returns for its seventh edition during Father’s Day weekend, November 9–10, 2018, at the Tampere Exhibition and Sports Centre.
In addition to Finland’s top Supercross and Motocross riders, this year’s event will once again feature a strong field of international competitors, promising two days of world-class racing and spectacular finals.
Alongside the racing action, Offroad Expo will bring together off-road enthusiasts from across Finland, with exhibitors also arriving from abroad. Discover the latest 2019 motorcycles, riding gear, accessories, and equipment from leading brands—all under one roof. Admission to the expo is free.
Award-Winning Track Designer Jussi Nikkilä Raises the Bar Again
The man behind the acclaimed Tampere Supercross track, Jussi Nikkilä, is once again designing a course that promises high speeds, close racing, and spectacular action.
Vice Chairman of Tampere Motocross Association (TamMC), Nikkilä has been responsible for the track design since the very first Tampere Supercross.
Each year the layout is redesigned to keep both riders and spectators excited.
“The most important elements are a flowing rhythm section, overall track speed, and creating plenty of opportunities for side-by-side racing,” says Nikkilä.
“Last year’s Head-to-Head Challenge was a huge success with both the riders and the fans, so we’ll continue developing the track to deliver even more exciting racing.”
Planning for the new circuit began immediately after last year’s event. Although the design is prepared well in advance, final adjustments are always made during practice week after test riders have had the opportunity to evaluate the track.
“It’s always a team effort. Our test riders give honest feedback, and together we fine-tune the course to create the best possible racing experience.”
Building the Track
In addition to designing the layout, Nikkilä also oversees construction of the track.
Experienced earthmoving professionals transport thousands of cubic metres of soil into the arena before shaping the course according to the design.
The event also relies heavily on the dedicated volunteers from TamMC, whose contribution is essential.
“Volunteers are incredibly important to our sport. Motocross is a relatively small community, and volunteering helps keep events affordable while creating a fantastic atmosphere where everyone is willing to help each other.”
Nikkilä also encourages newcomers to discover the sport.
“Tampere Supercross is a great place to experience Supercross for the first time. The event has played a major role in introducing the sport to a wider audience in Finland.”
Ticket Sales Are Already Heating Up
The popularity of Tampere Supercross continues to grow, with Saturday tickets selling out several years in a row.
Although minor improvements have been made to grandstand capacity, seating remains limited.
“If you want to guarantee your place at the biggest Supercross event of the season, buy your tickets in advance,” says Jarkko Nieminen, Event Producer and Promoter.
He also hints that new VIP experiences will be introduced for 2018, with more details to be announced soon.
