Tampere Supercross Returns – Expected to Generate Over €500,000 for the Local Economy
Two of Tampere’s biggest autumn motorsport events, Tampere Supercross and Offroad Expo, return for their sixth edition on November 10–11, 2017.
For the third consecutive year, Tampere Supercross will be held as an international competition, attracting riders from several countries to compete for prize money. At the same time, the Nordic region’s largest off-road expo will once again offer free admission and showcase the latest motorcycles, riding gear, accessories, and equipment from more than 50 exhibitors.
More than 10,000 motorsport enthusiasts are expected to attend the two-day event at the Tampere Exhibition and Sports Centre, providing a significant boost to the local economy.
Visitor Survey Shows More Than €700,000 Spent in the Tampere Region
As in previous years, Tampere Supercross commissioned MIR Link Oy to conduct a visitor survey following the 2016 event. The online survey received 330 responses from visitors and event partners.
Based on the findings, the combined 10,200 visitors to Tampere Supercross and Offroad Expo generated an estimated more than €700,000 in spending throughout the Tampere region. In addition to ticket sales and expo purchases, the largest economic impact came from hotels, restaurants, and hospitality services.
During the 2016 event, two official partner hotels in Tampere were fully booked with Supercross visitors. More than 20% of survey respondents stayed in hotels, highlighting the event’s strong tourism impact.
The event attracts visitors from across Finland—and increasingly from abroad. In fact, 64% of attendees travelled from outside the Pirkanmaa region, with hotel stays alone generating an estimated €200,000 for the local economy.
Restaurants also benefited significantly, as more than 7,500 visitors (73.6%) used local restaurants and hospitality services during the event weekend, spending an estimated €300,000.
The survey also showed that approximately 550 visitors (5.4%) used local taxi services. Additional spending on fuel, parking, public transportation, shopping, and other services further increased the event’s overall economic impact.
Outstanding Visitor Satisfaction
Tampere Supercross & Offroad Expo continue to receive exceptionally positive feedback from visitors.
In recent years, more than 90% of attendees have said the event either met or exceeded their expectations (95% in 2015 and 91% in 2016).
Due to strong demand, Saturday grandstand tickets have sold out in recent years, and early ticket purchases are highly recommended.
